The Friendly Wedding Chapter 5.2

TN: Hi, guys. Here’s the FRIENDLY update for today. I hope you like the chapter. Feel free to suggest corrections if you find some errors in spelling and grammar.

….

The next morning, Sapphire woke up without Johann by her side. She left the bed and did some stretching.

After that, she marched out of the room to go to the bathroom and she did not bother anymore to comb her hair. Just after leaving the room, the outside’s heat greeted her with so much ‘warmth’. She found out that only the bedroom and not the whole house has air-conditioning. Now, she’s feeling sticky all over.

She directly walked towards the bathroom but that’s also when she accidentally looked at the kitchen’s direction. Johann was there, with his back facing her. He’s only wearing a boxer shorts, leaving his bare back exposed.

Sapphire was frozen for a couple of seconds. Her eyes glued to Johann’s back. His shoulders were actually broad and his back has nice form. He was muscled in the right places. Not overly muscular but his care for his body could be seen. And that’s only his back!

Her eyebrows arched up when her sight moved down to his buttocks.

Her husband has a nice butt! She had already taken notice of that the first time they met. But now that he’s only in his boxers, the shaped of his bottom was fully emphasized. It was full and…

“Good morning, Wife!”

Sapphire’s eyes went up to Johann’s face when he turned to her direction. “G-Good morning.”

“Did you just wake up? How long have you been standing there? Why are you not speaking up?”

I’m busy staring at your ass, Husband. “I’m heading to the bathroom. I’ll wash my face.”

He sipped on his mug of… probably it’s hot coffee. “With that look, you still haven’t wash your face? How pretty of you even though you just woke up,” he smilingly said after taking his sip.

She folded her arms and accidentally peered at his body. He really has a good body. Only, he doesn’t have abs. “Why are you not exercising to get yourself some abs?”

Johann frowned. “Working out to gain abs is not easy. I even find doing push-ups very challenging, eh.” He raised his mug. “You want coffee?”

She shook her head. “I don’t drink coffee, I prefer a glass of fresh milk.”

It seems he was startled. “Oh? You actually don’t like coffee? Your bitterness for all men is that natural?”

“Yeah,” she turned around to enter the bathroom. She hastily washed her face and brushed her teeth, also tending to nature’s call. And when she was about to wash that part, she didn’t find a bidet.

“Oh, my gosh. I’m gonna use a dipper?” she exclaimed while sitting on the toilet bowl with only a pail and water dipper next to her. “Johann!” her shout to her husband.

She heard him approaching the closed door. “Yes, Wife?” he knocked.

“You don’t have a bidet here?”

“Extravagant! Bidet? None, eh. Wife, sorry.”

“Ugh! How am I going to wash my… my you-know-what!”

“Water dippers are trendy nowadays, wife. Don’t you know how to use it? I can wash your ‘you-know-what’, you want?” he laughingly replied.

She grimaced. “Husband, do you want me to strike you with this dipper?” She started using the dipper to carefully wash up. Shaking her head, she had never imagined a day like this would arrive and that she would be using a dipper!

Tomorrow, she’s definitely going to settle the bidet installment.

After exiting the bathroom, she went to the kitchen. “What’s for breakfast?” she asked Johann. The guy was busy cooking.

“Dried fish. After this, I’ll cook fried rice.”

Sapphire’s forehead creased when she smelled what he was cooking. “That’s dried fish? Why is it stinky? Is it safe to eat?”

He stared back at her. “Don’t tell me you haven’t eaten this before?”

She backed away from what he’s cooking. “No. That has never been served at my grandma’s mansion for breakfast. Why are you going to feed that to me? Don’t you have hot-dog or bacon? Wheat bread, perhaps? Or vegetable salad?”

“Dried fish and fried rice are more delicious than all of those that you have mentioned.” He grabbed a glass from the dining table. “Wife, here’s your milk. My ref doesn’t have fresh milk yet so I could only stir some spoonful of milk powder in glass and water.”

She suddenly smiled after seeing milk. After swiftly snatching away the glass of milk, she began to drink it. Whether the milk is fresh or powdered, she doesn’t mind.

She immediately drank it to the bottom. “Thanks for this.”

Johann faced her. She was stunned when his hand went up to the side and above her lips. He had wiped away the milk residue.

“You still want more?” he asked.

She nodded and handed him the glass. “Yes, please.”

“I’ll stir again? You do it.”

She frowned. “You do it. You can mix it well.”

“Fine, but you have to fry the dried fishes.”

“Don’t wanna. They’re stinky.”

“The smell is only like this but the taste is good. Especially when we dunk it in vinegar mixed with some salt. Then we can also add some chili.” He gave her the frying spatula and pushed her in front of the frying pan. There’s five dried fish there. “Why are the fishes so small? Why do they look dehydrated?”

Johann laughed. “That’s why it’s called dried fish. It was dried under the sun. It’s really dehydrated fish.” He was laughing when he said that while mixing milk powder.

Ah, so that’s why it was called like that. Why was it so? It seems she had never read about it. She has to do some research. “Why is it foul-smelling?”

“Perhaps, it sweated so  much when it was dried under the sun.”

She laughed. “You’re crazy, Johann. Just put on some clothes!” It’s because she began to feel restless for his topless body. She can also imagine his nice buttocks. Tsk tsk. That’s bad for her. She’s noticing so many things about Johann which she normally doesn’t pay attention before about the other guys.

“It’s too hot, eh. What’s the matter? I’ll wear something on later after eating.” He gave her the glass of milk and grabbed from her the spatula. “Sit there. Leave the rest to me. It will be finished after a while.”

She pouted. “We’re really going to eat that?”

“Yeah. Trust me, it tastes great. We’re going to eat it with bare hands so the eating experience will be greater.”

She shrugged her shoulders and started drinking again the glass of milk made by Johann. She took her seat on the dining area and waited for the food. Not long after, the dried fishes and fried rice were served in front of her.

Johann sat in front of her, “Lead the prayer.”

“Huh?”

“Lead the prayer as my bungalow house’s new muse,” meanwhile, he winked. He had put on a white shirt.

“Praying is really needed?”

“Yes, Wife. Before eating, praying is a must. Your household doesn’t practice that?”

“Not used to that.”

“Well, you’ll get used to it from now on. So, well, let’s pray.”

In the end, he’s the one who led the prayer and then they started eating. Johann enthusiastically ate while using his bare hand. Meanwhile, she doesn’t know what to do.

Johann suddenly stared at her. “You don’t want to eat?”

“Can I have spoon and fork?”

“Don’t be picky. After all, it’s your own hand that you’ll gonna use .”

She frowned. “I don’t know how to eat with my bare hands. That’s not been taught in school.”

Johann sneered then laughed. “Hay, oh my. So it is like this when your wife is elegant.” Johann stood up and shifted to her side.

He demonstrated how to eat with bare hands. She listened carefully. And she didn’t encounter difficulty getting what he meant since his explanations were also clear. Ah, so that’s why he became a teacher. He knows how to teach well.

Next thing she knew, she was eagerly eating the dried fish and fried rice. And indeed, the ‘dehydrated’ fish was delicious.

“By the way, Wife. Our Dean gave me a one-week leave since we’ve just been married yesterday. What about you? Do you have work?”

She shook her head. “My blog sponsors knew I got married, so, I’m not pressured to write articles for the meantime. What about it?” She fetched another dried fish and scooped some fried rice.

“Maybe you want vacation? Since, we have nothing else to do,” he said while finishing his food.

She shrugged. “Fine for me.”

“Where do you want to go?”

“I want a European tour.”

“Ay, how fierce. My budget can’t afford that. Be practical, please. Your spouse is only a professor.”

She glanced at him. “We can use my money, you know.”

“Let’s just go to a beach resort at Batangas or Zambales. Or let’s explore Tagaytay. Those kinds of trips. We don’t have to spend so much for loving-loving, Wife.”

“You know, Husband.  I, paying for our travel expenses, won’t diminish your masculinity. Also, are you sure you don’t want to tour Europe?”

“Let’s just tour the Philippines so that our co-Filipinos will be the ones to benefit from our money. Let’s go to Cebu, what say you? Xan and I had gone to a resort there and it’s pretty and also –“

“Who’s Xan?” she suddenly questioned after hearing another woman’s name.

“My best friend. Ay, you haven’t met her yet. Well, she’s missing in action.”

Her brows arched up. “Best friends? There’s a guy and girl best friends?”

“There is. The two of us. Why? You’re jealous?” he replied with a grin.

“As if! Are you sure the two of you are just friends? Or maybe the two of you are in relationship?”

He laughed. “All of you are always doubting us. We only have a pure platonic relationship. One more thing, both of us are in love with someone else.”

She only shrugged. But she still doesn’t believe it. It seems Johann is too friendly to girls? And how do this Xan looks like? Is she prettier than her?

But wait. Why is she comparing herself to Johann’s best friend whom she does not even know yet? She’s thinking about it pointlessly.

“I’m finished,” she said and directly went to the sink to wash her hands.

Johann followed. He brought with him all the used plates and glasses. “Wife, next time, you wait for everyone to finish eating before leaving the table. Your school had taught GMRC (Good Manners and Right Conduct) to you, right? You have to clean up your plates, and utensils as well, by yourself. Just reminding you. We don’t have servants here. No one will automatically clean up your dishes here.”

“Eh, then you can do it.” her grumpy reply.  But deep within, she was feeling embarrassed for what she did. He’s right. He is always right. She’s starting to be annoyed by that.

“No. Starting from today, the tasks will be divided. Like what I said before, I’ll teach you house chores. You’re a female person but you don’t know how to move inside the house?”

“Doing house chores isn’t the basis to determine what a real woman is. That’s stereotyping.”

“I know that. Just, we’re humans. Whether man of woman, he or she has to be aware how to take care of the house. You’ll see, when our marriage expired, you’ll thank me for teaching you this.”

She rolled her eyes at him. “No! You can’t command me to do household chores. I’m Sapphire Monteverde!”

“Hep! Let me correct that. You are now, Mrs. Sapphire Danaya Monteverde-Anderson. If you want to remain as my wife until next year, learn how to associate while you’re inside my palace. Understand?” he patiently explained.

He wanted to dominate. Obviously. She already compromised living in his house with her wishes and conditions tossed aside, yet he still wants her to do things she had never done throughout her whole life?

She can relate to his desire to practice being the head of the household, but he won’t be able to make her do his bidding!

Never ever!
